About this site
The freshwater tidal wetlands on Kingman and Heritage Islands are a beautiful example of successful restoration. Over the last two decades teams of fourth graders have helped replant the mudflats to grow a wetland through a program with our partner Anacostia Watershed Society. Your photo is a valuable addition to the Living Classrooms and Chronolog project, which will track the long-term and seasonal progress of this wetland. About Kingman Island
Kingman Island and Heritage Island are islands in Northeast and Southeast Washington, D.C., in the Anacostia River. Both islands are man-made, built from material dredged from the Anacostia River and completed in 1916.
